This web page is in memory of our beloved Audrey Mestre, a great freediver and an even greater person...
Audrey, you will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts.
We love you!

Here I am again, sitting at my computer, writing this letter to you on your 52nd birthday.

How I wish I could have celebrated it with you, Dad, and Pipin around a table filled with the food you loved so much! I wish I could have said, "Happy birthday, my love." I wish I could have hugged you tight and kissed you. I wish I could have seen your smile as you received your gift, seen you laugh in surprise, seen you come to snuggle in our arms, and heard you ask us again, "Why do you do all this for me?" And once more, I would have answered, "Because we love you and you deserve it." Dad would have said, "Because you are our dear daughter."

I would have seen your eyes shine, welling up with tears, and I would have been able to read in your gaze all the love you felt for us, too. But none of this will happen. It is all just a dream I am bringing to life with these few words on a piece of paper. Words fly away, but the written word remains; so I hope with all my heart that this letter reaches you wherever you are, that you know nothing has changed for us, that we still love you as much as ever, that you will always be our beloved girl—the one who lit up our lives for 28 years, who filled us with joy and pride, whose memory we will always cherish, who left an immense void by leaving so soon, and whom nothing and no one can ever replace. For the loss of a child is the greatest pain parents can experience.

I love you, my dear, and I wish you a happy birthday, surrounded by all those who have been with you since then and who now accompany you in this "life" beyond.
